Choose your release

Which Ubuntu version should you deploy?

This is the first real decision, and most VPS providers dodge it. Here's the straight answer.

Ubuntu LTS releases, support dates and when to use each
ReleaseCodenameReleasedSecurity updates untilUse it if
26.04 LTSResolute RaccoonApril 2026April 2031New builds with no control panel. Newest kernel and newest PHP, Python and Node from the repos.
24.04 LTSNoble NumbatApril 2024April 2029The safe default — the only Ubuntu cPanel currently supports, and Plesk's newest supported release.
22.04 LTSJammy JellyfishApril 2022April 2027Legacy apps pinned to older libraries, or a like-for-like move from an existing 22.04 server.
20.04 LTSFocal FossaApril 2020Ended May 2025 (ESM only)Only if an app truly won't run on anything newer — plan a migration.

The control panel trap nobody warns you about

Planning cPanel, Plesk or DirectAdmin? Don't deploy 26.04 yet. cPanel qualifies one Ubuntu LTS at a time and right now that's 24.04; Plesk's newest supported release is also 24.04, and DirectAdmin covers 20.04 to 24.04.

Want a panel? Deploy 24.04 LTS. Command line only, Docker or a custom stack? 26.04 LTS is fine and gives you a longer runway. Interim releases (25.10, 26.10) are available on request but not recommended for production.

Managed, specifically

What a "fully managed Ubuntu VPS" means here

Most hosts use "managed" to mean "we'll reboot it if you ask". Here's what our team actually handles.

Stays with you

Your application

Your code, database schema, deployment pipeline and third-party scripts. We keep the server healthy; you keep shipping.

Hands-off if you prefer

Your call

Rather we didn't touch the box? Say so — plenty of developers use us as pure infrastructure and never open a ticket.

  • Initial hardening — SSH keys, root login policy, ufw or iptables baseline, fail2ban.
  • OS and package updates — including unattended-upgrades so security patches land without you watching.
  • Control panel — cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin, CyberPanel or Webmin, on request.
  • Web stack — Nginx or Apache, PHP-FPM at your version, MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL.
  • SSL — Let's Encrypt issued and auto-renewed, on admin interfaces too.
  • Service failure diagnosis — MySQL won't start, PHP-FPM eating RAM? Raise a ticket and we get on the box.
  • OS reinstall on request — to another Ubuntu release or a different distribution.
Infrastructure

The platform underneath

VMware, not containers

A genuine VM with its own kernel: load modules, run Docker properly, set your own sysctl values and use WireGuard without asking.

Custom ISO supported

Maintain a hardened Ubuntu image or need a specific kernel build? Upload the ISO and we'll mount it.

Delhi NCR, our own network

The Ubuntu fleet runs in Delhi NCR on AS133643, so routes to Indian ISPs are short and the peering is ours. Mumbai on request.

NVMe on every tier

No SATA SSD tier and no spinning-disk fallback.

One IPv4, up to five

One dedicated IPv4 included; up to five total, each with a stated technical reason under APNIC allocation rules.

Live in under an hour

Root credentials and your IP by email within the hour of cleared payment, usually sooner.

Workloads

What people actually run on an Ubuntu VPS

Running WordPress on an Ubuntu VPS

The speed gain over a small hosting plan is real — but only if the stack is configured properly. A default LAMP install with no caching won't outperform a well-tuned host. On a WordPress Ubuntu VPS we set up:

  • Nginx with FastCGI cache, or Apache with a caching plugin, depending on your plugins
  • PHP-FPM 8.2 or 8.3 with OPcache tuned to your site's file count
  • MariaDB with the InnoDB buffer pool sized to your actual database, not the 128 MB default
  • Redis object caching — the single biggest win for WooCommerce
  • Let's Encrypt SSL, ufw with only 22, 80 and 443 open, and fail2ban on wp-login

For a WooCommerce store with real traffic, start at Pearl (5 GB RAM) or Mighty (8 GB). See also managed WordPress hosting.

Ubuntu VPS for developers

If you're deploying anything that isn't PHP-on-cPanel, this is where an Ubuntu VPS earns its cost. Stacks we commonly deploy:

  • 24.04 → Nginx → Node.js (PM2) → PostgreSQL
  • 26.04 → Caddy → Python/Gunicorn → PostgreSQL + Redis
  • 24.04 → Nginx → PHP-FPM 8.3 → MariaDB
  • 26.04 → Docker Compose (full stack, reverse-proxied)

Docker runs natively on a real VM — no nested-virtualisation workarounds. Same for single-node k3s, CI runners, WireGuard endpoints and self-hosted tools like Gitea, n8n or Metabase. Many teams run a small VPS as staging and a larger one as production, side by side in Delhi NCR.

Backups & security

Keeping your Ubuntu VPS safe

Backups are an add-on, not bundled — and we'd rather be honest about that. Bundling backup storage into a ₹249 plan would mean useless retention or a higher price for everyone, and many customers already back up to S3, Backblaze or their own target.

Want us to handle it? Ask for the managed backup add-on and we'll set the schedule and retention for your data. Rolling your own? restic, borg or rclone all work and we'll help with the cron.

One rule regardless: a snapshot on the same hypervisor is not a backup. Get a copy off the platform.

Our default security checklist
  • Keys-only SSH; PermitRootLogin prohibit-password at minimum
  • ufw default deny incoming, then open only what you need
  • unattended-upgrades on for security patches
  • fail2ban on SSH, plus wp-login and mail auth where relevant
  • Never run your application as root — use a service user
  • SSL on everything, including internal admin interfaces
  • Watch outbound traffic too — we monitor outbound abuse across the fleet and alert you

On a managed plan and any of this is missing? Raise a ticket and we'll fix it.

Sizing

Is an Ubuntu VPS the right size for you?

You need a VPS when…

  • Your site is throttled for CPU or process limits during traffic spikes
  • You need a PHP extension, Python package or system binary you can't install today
  • You need Redis, Memcached, Elasticsearch or a queue worker running as a daemon
  • You need root to debug your own application
  • You're running a Node.js or Python application at all

Move up to dedicated when…

  • You consistently need more than 16 GB RAM or 4 dedicated cores
  • Your workload is disk-I/O bound and competing for IOPS
  • You need specific hardware — a CPU generation, GPU or your own RAID layout
  • Compliance requires single-tenant hardware

Mightiest VPS (4 cores, 16 GB, 200 GB NVMe at ₹4,500) is roughly where a dedicated server starts making sense — and we'll tell you when you get there.

Onboarding

How to get started

  1. Pick a plan

Choose above, or tell us your workload and we'll size it.

  2. Choose your release

26.04, 24.04, 22.04 or a custom ISO. Pay in INR or USD.

  3. Get credentials

Root login and IP by email, typically well inside an hour.

  4. SSH in

Or tell us what to install and we'll set the stack up.

  5. Point your DNS

Switch once you've tested — or let us migrate you free.

Talk to a server engineer — 24x7:

+91 88003 34921 WhatsApp +91 97110 48349 [email protected]

Which Ubuntu versions can I install?

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, 24.04 LTS, 22.04 LTS and 20.04 LTS, plus current interim releases on request. You can also supply your own ISO and we will install from it.

How much does an Ubuntu VPS cost in India?

From ₹249 per month (effective rate on 3-year billing, excluding GST), fully managed, with NVMe storage, unlimited bandwidth and DDoS protection.

Can I change my Ubuntu version later?

Yes. Raise a ticket and we will reinstall the VPS with any supported release. A rebuild wipes the disk, so take a backup first.

Do I get root access on a managed plan?

Yes. Every plan includes full root. Managed means we help, not that we lock you out.

Is this KVM or container-based?

Neither — it is VMware. Full hardware virtualisation with your own kernel, which is why Docker, WireGuard and custom kernel modules all work normally.

Can I run Docker?

Yes, without restrictions. Install it from Docker's official repository — the Ubuntu-packaged docker.io is usually a version or two behind.

Can I install cPanel on Ubuntu?

Yes, on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. cPanel supports one Ubuntu LTS at a time and 26.04 is not qualified yet, so deploy 24.04 if cPanel is in your plan. Licensing goes through us.

What about DirectAdmin or Plesk?

DirectAdmin runs on 20.04, 22.04 and 24.04. Plesk's newest supported release is 24.04. CyberPanel and Webmin are also available on request.

How many IP addresses do I get?

One dedicated IPv4 is included. You can have up to five in total, each with a stated technical reason — an APNIC allocation requirement, not a sales gate.

Where are the servers?

Our Ubuntu VPS fleet runs in Delhi NCR on eWebGuru's own network, AS133643. Mumbai is available on request.

How quickly is the VPS ready?

Under an hour after payment clears, and usually much sooner.

Are backups included?

No — backups are an optional paid add-on. We can manage them for you, or help you configure restic, borg or rclone to your own off-site storage.

Can I upgrade later?

Yes — CPU, RAM and disk can all be increased, usually with a short reboot scheduled for a quiet hour.
